Fall/Winter CSA, Week 2
All amazing winter produce this week from my trusty fall/winter csa share. Luckily they have a greenhouse and I am lucky enough to be getting beautiful ripe tomatoes still! Yay. You can never have too many tomatoes in my opinion. If I end up having a stockpile its time to can them. I hardly ever have enough of my CSA tomatoes left over to can. I’m normally eating tomato sandwiches for lunch which I am totally in love with. Just add some pickled onions and mayo on toasted bread. AMAZING. It brings back memories for me and lunches my Momma would make. I did however get some pesticide free tomatoes from a man named Rick from the Covent Garden Outdoor Farmers Market. He’s totally amazing, I go back to him every year. I got about a half a bushel or more of Plum (Roma) tomatoes and did a canning session. I really need more. I want to can about 30 jars of tomatoes for the winter. I’ve canned 6 so far :P
Don’t forget to check out inherchucks this week for What’s in the Box #50. Head over there for some great ideas on how to use up your CSA haul!
Wow, it seems so late for tomatoes! Great idea, though. You’ll be rich in sauce all winter.
I know right? Quite a few people around here grow them in greenhouses and cold frames. I guess they love tomatoes as much as I do. I am thankful for it, because I am totally late canning this year :P
We got a pretty cabbage like yours in last week’s share. I used it for breakfast, of all things, with potatoes and back bacon. It was pretty tasty.
I’m glad you love tomato sandwiches–I am done with them by September.
Ohhh I love cabbage, and I’ve never thought to have it for breakfast. And that does sound amazing with potatoes and bacon yum! I’m starving now! I have one napa cabbage and a daikon radish as well, and was thinking of making kimchi (spicy korean fermented vegetables) with those ingredient, but I don’t have many of the other ingredients to make it, so now I’m just going to pickle the daikon with some carrots and use the napa to make wonton dumplings for soup maybe!
Looks like the perfect autumn haul :)
Thanks for linking up and sharing your goods with the rest of the CSA gang!
Thanks Heather :) I love autumn veg so much!
